Closed roads, power and heavy snow

The city Emergency Operations Center is partially open and DPW crews are on the road during the day.
On the last Saturday in October, Mother Nature and winter storm Alfred probably played more tricks than treats for Tolland residents.

Several town roads were partially closed and fire personnel responded to about 10 transformer explosions caused by the trees on wires. Included on the list Kozley and Cook roads and Weigold road where the wires cause a fire, according to Chief John Littell, who is also the promoter public safety and emergency management director fire.

The emergency center sent the transfer of calls to the town's Emergency Operations Center, which is partially staffed for the storm.

According to the latest CL & P update interruption, about 90 percent of the town was without power as of 8:45 pm in Tolland, the CL & P office in Tolland Stage Road had to be temporarily evacuated because of the smell of smoke, Littell said.

Highway Department crews hit the road earlier today and will soon be a break to regroup and head back out. Due to rough road conditions and because some of the town's throughways is partially closed, Littell has said: "If you do not need to be the way, stay out of the way."
